The Name
The name “Salty Dog” not only has sentimental value, as there used to be a pub near Braye in Ireland by the same name, it was the first pub Damon and his father went to many many years ago............... but also the name Salty Dog was once the nick name given to a young character usually a boy who would spend most of his time hanging around harbours in days gone by. He would know everything that was going on and who was up to what and cconsequently would inform the press gang of the whereabouts of potential sailors who would be worse for ware after a a few too many beers in one of the harbour bars.
The unfortunate characters who were then found by the press gang would often wake up from their night on the town, only to discover that they had been enlisted as crew members of a ship which was already out to sea and on its way to foreign lands. Not a good recipe for a hangover cure!
